Stop 8-Dee's Battalion Crossing
[Waypoint 39.020710 -94.521637]
Walk back to the Blue River Trail and start walking north on the concrete pavement. As you walk along the Blue River Trail, look over to the west side of the river. Take note of the high ground close to the river’s edge. The Confederate skirmish line from Col. Thomas R. Freeman’s brigade was posted on this high ground on the west bank of the river (refer to Tour Stop 13 Freeman’s Skirmish Line). If you continue walking north on the trail another 450 yards or so you will reach the point where Dee’s Battalion crossed the Big Blue River. Stop when you see the Dee’s Battalion Crossed Here sign. Here the Blue River Trail passes over the big culvert that was installed when Hardesty Avenue was built. This culvert was placed in the ravine followed by Dee’s Battalion to reach the river. You are very close to the river and to Hardesty Avenue.
Now walk back to your car so you can drive over to the west side of the Big Blue River for the rest of the Big Blue Battlefield walking tour.
