Stop 7-Byram’s Ford, East Bank
[Waypoint 39.035228 -94.594239]
Walk down the concrete Blue River Trail to the three historical markers installed in 2020. Byram’s Ford is located about 100 feet directly behind these markers.
That curved, gradual slope down into the river in front of you is where the Byram’s Ford Road entered the ford across the river. When you reach the riverbank, look southeast across to the other side of the river. You may be able to make out the Historic Byram’s Ford Road on the west side. The Byram’s Ford Road headed in a north/south direction when it crossed the river. Wagons entered the river near here and stayed in the river for a bit before exiting the river on the opposite bank.
The original paintings on two of these markers were the work of local Jackson County artist Tom Beard. Tom was the sculptor of The Pioneers located on Broadway in Westport.
