Stop 55: Confederate Entrenchments

[Waypoint 39.018606, -94.529008]

The next tour stop is located about 0.4 miles northwest of the previous tour stop. Some preliminary surveys indicate the slight mounds you see here are the remnants of entrenchments used by the Confederates on October 23. These earthworks were actually constructed by Kansas State Militia from the Department of Kansas and used by Jennison’s Brigade on October 22. You are standing near the Confederate left flank.
