Tour: The Battle of Westport

Note: This article is inspired by the Monnett Battle of Westport Fund's Battle of Westport Self-guided Automobile Tour. The tour stops are sequenced to minimize the distance traveled. Because of this, we will be discussing battle events out of chronological sequence. Please refer to the Battle of Westport article to obtain an overview of the events in chronological sequence.
On October 23, 1864, Union forces and Kansas State Militia under the command by Major General Samuel R. Curtis defeated Confederate forces commanded by Major General Sterling Price in and around Westport, Missouri. Following this defeat, Price was able to escape south with his Confederate army reasonably intact. This tour is located in and around Kansas City, Missouri 64132.
