WCNB Description:

"Three times through the smoke and tall grass the Federals saw waves of Southerners crest the southern slope of Bloody Hill 150 yards in front of you. The men of the Missouri State Guard were at the heart of each Southern assault. Lacking uniforms, Missourians had been generally held in contempt as an 'undisciplined mob' by Confederate officers. An yet 'they all fought well' making up with enthusiasm what they lacked in experience. AND THEY PAID DEARLY. Colonel John Burbridge lost over a third of the 270 men in his infantry regiment, and overall the Missourians suffered heavier casualties than regular Confederate units."
