| Waypoint | N 39º 00.816' W 94º 31.792' |

Directions to Stop #8: Continue waking southwest on Manchester Trafficway. Before you get to 63rd Street, cut through the field to your right (west) for about one tenth of a mile until you reach the entrance to the Kansas City Water Service Department. If you find the overland route overgrown, you can walk down to 63rd Street. Be careful for 63rd Street is very busy and there is no sidewalk. The marker is right next to the cannon. Tour Stop #8 is about 0.2 miles from Tour Stop #7. This tour stop is located in Kansas City, Missouri 64132.

Description: The ninth stop on the tour places you at The Battle of Westport Historical Marker Number 17A. This marker provides a brief description of the Confederate artillery (under command of Major Joseph H. Pratt) that was placed at this location. General Marmaduke had placed Hynson's Texas Battery (four parrot guns) on the far right of his main defensive line. It was placed in position to cover the open field and the road leading up from Byram's Ford. These were the guns that would lay down such a murderous fire on the Federal advance up the narrow Byram's Ford Road.
