Directions: Continue heading east along Sugar Creek Road. After approximately 2.4 miles from Highway 72, turn left (north) onto Ryan Road [ Map ] (If you reach N 2nd Street / State Route 94 / State Route 265, you have gone too far).
[Please note that my car was unable to follow this route in November 2009 because of poor road conditions on Sugar Creek Road due to heavy fall rains.]
Description: Following the path of present day Ryan Road, the Bentonville Detour turned north through this ravine as it left the valley of Little Sugar Creek. Based on input from McCulloch and McIntosh, Van Dorn expected this route would keep his army hidden from the Federal Army. The Federal entrenchments at little Sugar Creek were approximately 4 miles east of this point.
