Quantrill chose to get across the Wakarusa River using one of the so-called Bluejacket Crossings.

The limestone outcroppings seen on left bank are common along the banks of the Wakarusa River.

One of the crossings over the Wakarusa River is off to the west just to the left of the ravine in the foreground.
