This tour stop is located at a railroad cut at the western end of E. 58th Street. When the Federal advance started, they moved through this area. The railroad cut in front of you did not exist in 1864. The Historic Byram’s Ford Road contin-ued west continuing in the path of present-day E. 58th Street. After about 0.2 miles from this location, the road turned southwest and then southerly where it crossed the Big Blue River at Byram’s Ford about 0.4 miles from here. Just east of the railroad tracks and on the south side of the road was the farmhouse of John Cox. The structure no longer exists but was in this location at the time of the battle.
