Description: In February of 1855, the site for the town of Osawatomie was selected and surveyed by the agents of the New England Emigrant Aid Company. Samuel C. Pomeroy, future U.S. Senator for Kansas, was one of these agents. Osawatomie would become an important free-state settlement during the 1850s.
