Directions: While in Osawatomie, you may want to start at the Osawatomie History Museum [ Waypoint = N38 29.934 W94 57.099 ], which is located at 628 Main Street in Osawatomie, Kansas 66064. There is a convenient place to park here and several of the stops are within easy walking distance.

• From the Pottawatomie Massacre Historical Marker in Lane, Kansas, head north about 0.1 miles and turn right (east) on W 4th Street.
• After about 4.7 miles, turn left (north) on US Highway 169.
• After 2.5 miles, take the exit for Plum Creek Road / Kansas Highway 7.
• After about 1.2 miles, continue straight on 6th Street.
• Go another 1.5 miles and turn left (west) onto Main Street in Osawatomie, Kansas.
• The Osawatomie History Museum is one block ahead on your right.

Description: In February of 1855, the site for the town of Osawatomie was selected and surveyed by the agents of the New England Emigrant Aid Company. Samuel C. Pomeroy, future U.S. Senator for Kansas, was one of these agents. Osawatomie would become an important free-state settlement during the 1850s.
