Stop 44: Collins’s Battery

[Waypoint 39.026477 -94.594728]

This stop is a historical marker located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and W. 56th Street. Capt. Richard A. Collins was in command of two sections (four 10-pounder Parrott Guns) from his battery located near here on October 23. He deployed his guns just below the crest of the hill you see to the north. This provided some protection from the artillery fire from the Federal batteries located about a half mile to the north.
